Geoff Barnes worked in public broadcasting for 36 years. In 1964 he joined the ABC as a producer in educational radio and television. In 1969 he joined the newly formed ABC TV Features and Documentary Unit and worked principally in the documentary genre until retirement. He researched, wrote, produced and directed documentary programs about social issues, history, science, arts, travel-adventure and environment. In 1986 he was an executive producer at Film Australia. In 1990 he was a Commissioning Editor with SBS Independent. In 1995 Geoff returned to the ABC and took up the position of Commissioning Editor Documentaries until 2000.
