The Screen Guide

A computer animation work that journeys through virtual models of colonially explored landscapes, most notably the Blue Mountains. Examines the notion of 'frontier' with particular reference to the colonial exploration of the newly discovered continent of Australia and the contemporary explorations of new frontiers within virtual reality. The images are entirely computer generated relying significantly on digital elevation maps supplied by the CSIRO geology centre. The soundtrack is constructed from location sounds as well as quotes from colonial literature speculating on the nature of the interior.
