An insight into the work of Joseph Banks, the botanist who accompanied Captain James Cook on his first voyage of circumnavigation. With fellow botanist Carl Daniel Solander, Banks collected specimens of over 700 hitherto unknown species of plants, which were recorded in drawings by Sydney Parkinson. His intention was to publish a complete set of engravings of these plants - an ambition not achieved in his lifetime, but finally coming to fruition 200 years later. The program traces Banks' discoveries in Madeira, Rio de Janiero, Tierra Del Fuego, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia, and documents Alecto Historical Editions' massive undertaking to produce a full-colour edition of Banks' Florilegium.
