The Screen Guide

Today sunny Rottnest Island is Western Australia's premiere holiday resort but beneath the brightly coloured buildings and bitumen roads which criss-cross the island, lies the key to the tragic and horrific past of Rottnest. From the mid 1800s to the early 1900s, Rottnest was used as a prison camp for Aboriginal men. Of the 3,000 prisoners sent there, most of them on trumped-up charges, 500 died and their bones lie in unmarked graves beneath the Rottnest Island holiday settlement.
