In 1990, composer/conductor Richard Mills was artist-in-residence for the ABC. He was commissioned by James Galway and the ABC to write a Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, which premiered at the Sydney Town Hall, with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, on Thursday 22 February, 1990. This documentary presents a profile of Richard Mills, and outlines the commissioning of the piece, techniques employed and the composer's inspirations. Richard Mills is seen at work on the score, at first rehearsals with the orchestra, meeting and rehearsing with James Galway, and finally conducting the completed work with Galway and the SSO at the Sydney Town Hall.
