As an Everest climber and guide, I have spent a lot of time on expeditions with those tough, always smiling sherpas. But who are they once the expedition is over and they go home to their families and communities? Since 2007 I have been staying every year with Lakpa Tamang and his family, sharing the problems, joys and challenges of every day life. BEYOND THE SMILE is about how the friendship growing beyond mountains, cultures and continents affects our lives.
