The Screen Guide

A diverse group of Papua New Guinean women gather to partake in a timeless ritual and share memories of their homeland in Aunty Betel nut, an intimate documentary set in a suburban Australian backyard. Five 'Aunties' take part in the practice of chewing betel nut, a plant seed that produces a sense of mild euphoria when consumed. What unfolds is a joyous celebration of friendship and survival as the women reveal what it is to be an Australian with a deep, personal link to another culture.
