This is the true story of transformation in the Omo Valley of Ethiopia. Blind, 90 year-old Bab Damtew tells a story of population explosion caused by the ostensibly beneficial impact of Western medicine on infant mortality rates, the consequent increased demand for food resources, and the final total degradation of the land. In 1984 the whole world saw the tragic images of dying children, walking skeletons, death camps and feeding centres in Ethiopia. But now, in Baba' valley, people have banded together determined to bring change. Although the filmmakers use devastating footage of the famine initially, what they achieve beyond these images is a sense of the humanity of the people, the beauty of the land, and the enormity of the problems that the people are beginning to overcome.
