Between 1828 and 1984 the first point of contact with Australia for many immigrants was the North Head Quarantine Station at Manly in Sydney. The experience was often confusing and sometimes frightening, particularly for non-English speaking arrivals who were taken here off passenger ships without any explanation in their own language. This is their story.
