The Screen Guide

This small, olive-green bird lives in the dense forest on the centre of Heron Island. It usually nests high in the trees and generally goes unnoticed by the tourists, but for one scientist in particular it's been a lifetime work. In 1964, Jiro Kikkawa began banding Island Silvereye chicks. The film follows a pair of young birds as they breed for the first time. The Silvereyes are a good example of how wildlife reacts to changes. The story of the young pair illustrates the struggle for survival on this 'island paradise'.
