In May 2020, at the end of a “meth-fuelled bender”, Dani Laidley was arrested on a charge of stalking. During the arrest, Victoria Police officers took and distributed photos of her in female attire, revealing to the world her gender transition for the first time. These actions are the subject of an ongoing trial between Dani and the police. DANI – The Story of Danielle Laidley, will examine the court case against three police officers. While the trial will be dramatic, it’s Dani’s personal journey to find her place within the LGBTQIA+ community and rebuild relationships with her family that will provide a story of hope and inspiration for queer sportspeople, as well as trans and gender diverse people worldwide.
