The Screen Guide

The film is about digging the dirt both literally and figuratively. The area around Little Lonsdale Street (known as 'Little Lon') was notorious for almost a century as Melbourne's red light district. It was also home to thousands of poor working people and to successive groups of migrants from many backgrounds. The film draws on a variety of archival images to illustrate the history of the site as well as contributions made by archaelogists, historians and volunteers working on the site.
