The Screen Guide

During World War II, some 18,000 Italian prisoners of war spent up to five years in Australia. From their ranks emerged a man of extraordinary daring and cunning - a young officer who simply believed it was his duty to escape. In doing so, he became one of the most celebrated characters along the border country of New South Wales and Victoria. His name was Edgardo Simoni, and he earned the nickname 'La Volpe' - 'The Fox'. 'A Big Country' brought Edgardo Simoni from his home in Rome, to retrace his years as a prisoner of war in Australia.
