The Screen Guide

Ruth Cracknell, Australian actor, has been making people laugh since the 1950s. Her survival at the top of a young and competitive profession can be attributed to talent, addiction to work and adaptability. Interviews in the film focus on the comic and eccentric in her world. They interweave with drama sequences mainly from the ABC-TV series MOTHER AND SON, Samuel Beckett's play 'Happy Days' and Elizabeth Jolley's short story 'Woman In A Lampshade'. Both sides of Cracknell's comic/tragic talent are shown in excerpts from these works and from the plays, 'The Importance of Being Ernest' and 'Lost In Yonkers'. IT'S RUTH is intended as an entertaining and informative profile on a great actor, Ruth Cracknell.
