Set in a not-exactly-above-board Afro hair salon in Western Sydney, we follow four black twenty-somethings weaving through careers, relationships, culture and family as they work out what exactly to do with their lives. Mary, now KABUSHA is an eclectic failed slashie and the current hairdresser and proprietor of AFRO SISTAHS salon operating from her mum’s garage. She navigates the looming pressure of her thirties with her forever-broke customers, and friends: AKILAH, an ambitious Law student whose no-compromise 20 year plan gets thrown out the window; AYO, a devout Christian making her family back home proud with regular Western Union payments, while dodging their many attempts to find her a husband; and TRISHA, the ultimate fashion influencer, who’ll sell whatever it takes to not be forgotten. These sistahs, brought together by hair, bound together by secrets will realise that some knots take more than coconut oil to untangle.
