1940 and the world is at war again. WWI veteran Jack, laments the sacrifice of good friends gone. His self-destruction comes to a halt when he encounters Masaru, a Japanese prisoner of war. For Masaru the decision to stay alive is as difficult as the decision to die. These two men find a bond: unknowingly there is a desire for hope. The film is not about heroism. It's about the legacy of war through the eyes of the ordinary men who survive it. For Masaru the film ends in ineffable tragedy, and for Jack, life is once again completely altered.
Somewhere near Kokoda two Australians are deep in the jungle of New Guinea, facing an enemy they cannot see: the Japanese. Max, a cameraman, sent fresh from home, is left to fend for himself while Davo finds a way back. When Max comes face to face with the enemy he does not see the enemy that his fellow men despise. Max will get his first lesson from the footage of his own camera, but he will have to survive this to ever see it.
