Co-creators, writers and executive producers Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt discuss the joys of collaboration for their new drama series After The Verdict.

For writers and producers Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt, their creative collaboration has spanned many years and many productions including House Husbands and Dead Lucky. Forging a strong bond and trust has meant establishing a short hand when they work together.

“When you find someone you’ve been creatively naked with, it’s really quite joyful,” explains Beaumont. “Because… you can write a seed of an idea and then contact them and go, ‘Look, I don’t think this is quite right. But can you fix it or bring it to life?’ So it’s a really magic thing to have and we’re very lucky.”

In this behind-the-scenes video, Beaumont and Proffitt talk about collaborating with actress Michelle Lim Davidson, writing the role of Margie specifically with Magda Szubanski in mind and how the production managed to film the series during the pandemic and a La Niña weather event and still complete on schedule.
