The Power of the Dog: behind the scenes

Producer Emile Sherman discusses his ongoing collaboration with director Jane Campion for their new film, The Power of the Dog.

Having produced both seasons of the hugely successful Top of the Lake, producer Emile Sherman was keen to continue his working partnership with writer / director Jane Campion. When she revealed to him that she was hoping to adapt the novel The Power of the Dog to the big screen, Sherman knew he wanted to be involved.

“She [Jane] is a life changing director in terms of the relationship of working with her to not just what she brings as a director… but just the experience of her as a person,” he explains. “She brings her whole person to everything she does.”

In this behind-the-scenes video, Sherman talks about the benefits of making the film as an Australian/New Zealand Official Co-production, the challenges of filming on location in the South Island of New Zealand and what he hopes audiences experience watching the film.

The Power of the Dog is screening in select cinemas in Australia now and streaming on Netflix from 1 December 2021.
