Iggy & Ace: behind the scenes
Writer and director AB Morrison discusses alcohol and the pitfalls of recovery in his new queer web series Iggy & Ace.
Set in Western Australia, Iggy & Ace is a new 6 x 10-minute comedy/drama series that follows best friends and drinking buddies Iggy (Sara West) and Ace (Joshua Virgona). When Ace starts attending Gay AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) in a bid to give up the drink, he worries what impact it will have on his friendship with Iggy.
It’s a story that creator, writer and co-director AB Morrison says isn’t autobiographical but he was seeing in various parts of the queer community. “It’s something that I’ve been around,” Morrison explains. “So it was familiar but [the series] is not based on anything.”
In this behind the scenes video, Morrison explains how his love of eshays informed Iggy & Ace’s wardrobe choices, his collaboration with co-director Monica Zanetti and his praise for SBS Digital Originals which afforded him the opportunity to make the series.
Iggy & Ace is available to stream on SBS On Demand.
