I Am Woman: TIFF 2019
The director and team behind highly-anticipated Helen Reddy biopic I Am Woman speak from the world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival.
Director/producer Unjoo Moon says she and the film’s cinematographer (and her husband) Dion Beebe wanted to bring the story of Melbourne-born Helen Reddy back to Australia, nearly 50 years after she skyrocketed to fame across the world with the feminist anthem I Am Woman.
“At the heart of it, it’s such an Australian story and Helen is somebody who paved the way for Australians… being able to go to a country and being able to be bold and daring and really succeed at what you do,” Moon said.
Moon was joined on the red carpet by the film’s star, Australian actor Tilda Cobham-Hervey, who is garnering praise for her turn as Reddy, as well as fellow Australian Danielle Macdonald (Dumplin’) and US actor Evan Peters (X-Men: Days of Future Past).
I Am Woman releases in Australian cinemas in early 2020.
