George Gittoes’ Snow Monkey is filmed in Afghanistan and follows three gangs of children: the Ghostbusters, the Snow Monkeys and the Gangsters. Told through the lives of these kids, the doco is a portrait of unseen Afghan politics, culture and society.
Filmed in Iraq over the seven years following 11 September 2001 - when co-director Michael Ware lived and worked as a journalist in Iraq - Only the Dead details the rise of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the man who founded al-Qaeda.
Snow Monkey and Only the Dead are Screen Australia-funded.
