The Screen Guide

UNDER ROOKWOOD is a poetic meditation on the largest necropolis in the southern hemisphere - historic Rockwood cemetery in Sydney's west, a city within a city. Created from it's rich, moody double-bass score, the images of UNDER ROOKWOOD generated a second 'layer' of music in public screening/performance during post-production. Working almost entirely without words, the film explores the textures of time, the architecture and the ruins of grief, the slow life of lichen, the quick life of willy wagtail, the strange silence of the completeness of death and, at last, the angel of vision that lies beyond the grave with a million souls who live six feet under Rookwood.
