Festival triennial funding opens and program name changes

Event Partnerships is now known as Industry Partnerships, and applications are open for the three-year Australian festival funding cycle.

Funding for two of Screen Australia’s Business & Audience partnership streams are now open for applications, including three-year festival funding.

Australian Festivals and Events: funding program for established and successful Australian festivals, events or conferences that could benefit from long-term strategic funding. Intended to promote Australian productions and practitioners to audiences via significant domestic events, this program provides potential funding to film festivals, national touring programs and major standalone conferences and special events.

Industry Partnerships: (formerly Event Partnerships from Screen Australia’s Development Department). Funding for any domestic or international event in partnership with Australian industry organisations, its key benefit will be to support the Australian screen industry. Includes potential support for events, conferences and seminars, with funding up to $50,000 per event. Note: we do not offer sponsorship funding.

Further guidelines updates are summarised below:

EXTENSIONS

  • Gender Matters Better Deals: program will continue for 17/18 year utilising the remainder of the original $1m fund announced last year.
  • Inclusive Attachment Scheme: due to successful 16/17 pilot of the Gender Matters Attachments for Women program, a broader Inclusive Attachment Scheme now applies from 17/18. A meaningful attachment must be identified for emerging practitioners in any role as a condition of Screen Australia funding for all production grants and investments for Feature Drama, General Drama, Children’s programs, Online Production, Documentary Commissioned Program, and Indigenous TV & Feature funding. The attachment should reflect the theme or content of the project: for example Indigenous, ability, gender, LGBTI+, culturally or linguistically diverse. Alternatively, the attachment should be targeted at providing experience to emerging practitioners. The attachments can be Above the Line or Below the Line but must be included in your budget and be at least two weeks in duration at award minimum rates.

ELIGIBILITY CHANGES

  • Story Development: eligibility is now open to Hot Shots Plus successful teams
  • Documentary Development: eligibility changed from three eligible credits to two credits
  • Documentary Producer Program: the total budget minimum requirement has been raised from $120,000 to $125,000 per hour in line with PEP

NAME CHANGE

  • Online Production: the funding name changed from Multiplatform Drama and the aims of the fund clarified as lower-budget productions that may present talent development or project development opportunities.

ADMINISTRATION

  • Solicitor’s Opinion Letter: Chain of Title is no longer required for any applications for Screen Australia direct funding unless specifically requested by the funding manager. A Solicitor’s Opinion letter will be required for combined Screen Australia funding $50,000 or over. Any combined funding under $50,000 will not require any Chain of Title or a Solicitor’s Opinion Letter, but the documents must be listed in the application and the applicant must warrant that they hold sufficient rights to the project.
  • Producer Offset requirements: applicants do not have to submit an application for Producer Offset prior to submitting their application for Feature Drama, General Drama, Children’s programs and Online Production unless specifically required by the funding manager.
