Call to Country to unearth Indigenous documentary makers

The Indigenous Department of Screen Australia, in association with the ABC, is pleased to announce Call to Country, a new initiative to unearth Indigenous Australian documentary makers.

The Indigenous Department of Screen Australia, in association with the ABC, is pleased to announce Call to Country, a new initiative to unearth Indigenous Australian documentary makers.

Led by award-winning filmmaker Beck Cole, Call to Country will provide opportunities for passionate, new and emerging Indigenous documentary filmmakers to dig beneath the surface and uncover a slice of Indigenous life never before represented on Australian screens. It is the latest initiative of the National Indigenous Documentary Fund (NIDF), which has produced 12 successful series to date.

Five chosen applicants will take part in a week-long documentary making workshop in August 2011. Following the workshop they will be allocated surprise Australian locations and funded to research and develop stories from these locations for production as broadcast half-hour documentaries for ABC TV.

No previous experience is required only a demonstrated burning desire to pursue a career in screen storytelling. Applicants will need to submit a three-minute micro documentary on a topic of their choice as part of their application. The most compelling of these will secure one of the five places in the Call to Country series.
