Top 5 events we’re looking forward to at Melbourne International Games Week

Melbourne International Games Week (MIGW) is here, so we’ve put together a list of some of the fantastic events you should look out for this year.

Screen Australia is delighted to be supporting MIGW from 3 – 13 October 2024, presented by Creative Victoria, for a week of games exhibitions, showcases and events to unite and inspire the industry, including Games Connect Asia Pacific (GCAP), PAX Aus and Australian Game Developer Awards (AGDA).

The Local Lounge is your chance to engage with the next generation of exciting games from Australia and the talented creators behind them. The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, you can catch the Screen Australia Games team alongside some of the incredible independent crew and gamemakers, and showcasing a rotating lineup of Australian independent games all funded through Screen Australia. And in partnership with the Gender Matters Taskforce, Tuesday's Local Lounge showcase is dedicated to gender-diverse-led games. After attending the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco with support from Screen Australia, catch these talks by delegates Jojo Zhou - I Think I Need a Writer: Tools for Troubleshooting Narrative on Monday 7 October and Jessica Lyon - Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Motherhood in the Games Industry on Wednesday 9 October. Start the day right with the Gender Matters Breakfast at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, presented by Screen Australia and Gender Matters Taskforce, at 8:00am on Tuesday 8 October. A networking breakfast focussed on showing support and addressing the underrepresentation of women and gender-diverse practitioners in Australian’s gaming sector. RSVP here to secure your plate.

To celebrate Parallels 10 years of creativity, there will be talks and playable games from some of Australia’s most existing talent, alongside installations and music taking you into the night, held at the beautiful and monumental Melbourne Town Hall on Thursday 10 October.
