Box office results by individual years can fluctuate significantly, typically due to the effect of specific release patterns – such as the tradition of Boxing Day releases that splits earnings over calendar years –  and the fact that local box office is often driven by one or two break-out, big-budget Australian hits every couple of years, such as Lion (2017), Peter Rabbit (2018) and Peter Rabbit 2, The Dry (2021) and Elvis (2022).
